OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL

At Porter croft we believe that the school council is the is key to the development of our school and gives pupil a voice. Each class from Y1 to Y6, nominate and democratically vote for two school council member. Every two/three weeks there will be a school council meeting. During these meetings the school council representatives discuss school events and changes and make suggestions to improve the school. Each class has a school council book where all pupils can discuss issues and concerns. This book is taken to school council meetings where the ideas and suggestions are consulted.

WHY HAVE A SCHOOL COUNCIL?

Everyone in Porter Croft can talk to their school council representative at any time to let us know if you have a worry or concern about something at school or if you have a great idea that they would like to make happen.

  • To help children develop responsible attitudes.
  • To improve behaviour.
  • To give children hands-on experience of issues
  • To create a feeling of belonging, encourage listening to others and develop self-confidence.
  • To improve pupil/teacher relationships.
  • HOW DOES THE SCHOOL COUNCIL WORK?

A teacher leads the meetings. Children are encouraged to listen to each other, respond to questions and share their ideas with the group. During the meeting, the teacher or a Y6 child takes minutes about what has been spoken about. These are shared during the next meeting and with the head teacher. The meeting minutes are shared through the ideas and suggestion book

HOW DO WE FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED DURING A MEETING?

The teacher will update all children on outcomes of school council meetings, decisions made and actions taken. The school council will help deliver assemblies and let you know what changes have been decided from your suggestions
