Curriculum information

At Porter Croft we believe that education is a key factor in transforming the lives of children so that they can be whatever they choose to be. We believe in nurturing children so that they thrive in school and as a result are ready to learn and progress towards their goals.

We believe that all pupils are entitled to an engaging and enriching curriculum, which should be accessible to them, enjoyed by them, and which results in them knowing and remembering more.
Porter Croft’s curriculum has been designed to be inclusive and embrace the diverse society that we are a part of. We follow a spiral curriculum where essential knowledge and skills are revisited and built upon as children progress through school. As an Academy, we are not required to follow the National Curriculum, nevertheless, many of our subject areas follow the National Curriculum guidance in KS1/KS2 and the New EYFS Framework. However, we have reviewed the content of what we teach in order to ensure our curriculum meets the needs of all our learners to be:

  • Successful learners
  • Confident individuals
  • Globally Responsible citizens

  • Our lesson design and provision aims to advance understanding through small cohesive steps to ensuring that key concepts are embedded and can be applied to all areas of the curriculum. Lesson differentiation is dependent upon the needs of our learners where they are challenged and supported to achieve their full potential.

Our learning is linked wherever possible in order to teach our children the essential understanding, knowledge and skills for learning and life. At the heart of our approach is a focus on communication and vocabulary building skills in order to help them:
  • Enjoy life
  • Think
  • Communicate
  • Participate
  • Aspire and achieve.
